Pregnant Trina McGee Says She Came Out of Early Menopause With the Help of Shamans in Belize

When early menopause began for Boy Meets World actress Trina McGee (who played Angela in the hit ‘90s series), she didn’t let that stop her from continuing to follow her dreams. Namely: getting pregnant with husband Marcello Thedford. The actress, who recently announced that she is pregnant at 54 years old, shared how she enlisted the help of shamans in Belize to help her conceive. Yes, you read that correctly.

“I have been saying I wanted to have a baby with my current husband of 16 years for quite a while,” she told Entertainment TonightMcGee is also mom to adult children Ramia, 31, Langstron, 29, and Ezra, 25, from previous relationships. McGee said she “tried” to conceive naturally but couldn’t, and she was hesitant to go through IVF.  Instead, they traveled to Belize, where Thedford has a “cultural background,” and they worked with the Garifuna people on natural remedies. Shamans in Belize recommended she take medicinal herbs to help. According to ET, McGee says that, plus her active lifestyle and low-stress environment, “assisted her greatly in reversing menopause and helping them to conceive a child together.”  RELATED STORYPregnant Jenna Dewan Makes Lying on an Exam Table Look Glamorous in Gorgeous New Photos

Getting pregnant is possible during perimenopause, Dr. Heidi Snyder Flagg, an OB/GYN and Flow Advisory Council Member, told Flow Space in July 2023. Although, she explained, “The chance of a 52- or 55-year-old becoming naturally pregnant is as probably close to zero as we are going to get.” Still, if you don’t want another baby in your 40s or 50s, you should definitely still be taking birth control.

For McGee, she feels “just sheer joy” about being pregnant. “I don’t partake in any of the negativity anybody has to say about it. I am so happy,” she told ET. “I have been blessed, and that’s it. And all I’m concerned about — I only have one job now — is to have this baby, and that’s what I’m about.”

The Classmates star announced her pregnancy earlier this week, sharing a text photo set to “Baby Love” by The Supremes, which read: “At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant. Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery. Thank you.”

She also shared a photo of her baby bump taken in Belize, where she is glowing. McGee, who called her pregnancy “miracle, beautiful, and triumphant” in ET’s interview, has some advice for other people wanting to become parents later in life. “It’s an individual decision, but be realistic about it,” she said. “Be realistic about your lifespan — make provisions. And understand that when you do have a baby at this age, what you should have for them is a lot of wisdom — and that’ the beauty of the situation.
